Give it a try today. -- Will s /var/log/maillog and populates the pop authentication database. /etc/sendmail.cf mods - Additional pop authentication database support - Relay rules for pop authentication database. /usr/local/sbin/poprelay.custodiat.pl (in 1.3 called poprelayd.custodiat) - restarts poprelayd if it has crashed for any reason... a safety precaution. - Symbolic link at /etc/cron.quarter-daily/poprelay.custodiat.pl /etc/rc.d/init.d/poprelayd - Initialization script for poprelayd - Symbolic link at /etc/rc.d/rc3.d/S90poprelayd /var/lib/cobalt/uninstallers/pop-before-smtp-*.uninst - Uninstaller, run only as root. Important Things: THIS PACKAGE DOES NOT DISABLE SMTP RELAY TRUSTS AS DEFINED IN THE WEB ADMINISTRATIVE INTERFACE Control Panel -> Email Parameters MENU. IF A USER IS NOT PROMPTED TO "CHECK MAIL BEFORE RELAYING" AFTER THIS PACKAGE IS INSTALLED, THAT USER IS USING A TRUSTED HOST AS DEFINED IN THE CONTROL PANEL LISTED ABOVE. Version 1.2 allows for more flexible usernames, includes a better uninstaller, and a custodial program that runs four times daily to make sure the poprelay daemon (/usr/local/sbin/poprelayd) is active. You may view temporary open relays by IP address and relay time in seconds by invoking the command "/usr/local/sbin/poprelayd -p" as root. This package upgrades qpopper. Note that Cobalt service releases may overwrite this version of qpopper and the pop-before smtp relaying may fail. The relay window after a POP authentication is 15 minutes. This value can be changed by editing /usr/local/sbin/poprelayd in Version 1.2. Use the CGI interface by clicking the application name in the Install Software list for Version 1.3. poprelayd uses about 2.5 megabytes of RAM. Don't use this package on a 16MB server or you'll notice a big performance hit. This should only be an issue for low-end Qube users. Memory is cheap, there's no excuse for running a Cobalt box with less than 128MB. Upgrade instructions: If you are already using an earlier version, run the uninstall script /var/lib/cobalt/uninstallers/pop-before-smtp-* as root prior to installing the newer package using the web user interface. Installation Instructions: Download the pkg file to your PC. Go to the Maintenance -> Install Software menu of your server. Click Browse, select the package file. Click the Install button. That's all. Uninstall: If you need to stop the pop-before-smtp relaying version 1.2, you should uninstall this package. Version 1.3 may be disabled using the CGI interface.
